Top 5 Wednesday

Top Five Wednesday is a Goodreads group which shares ideas and discussions based on a prompt each Wednesday.  This week we talk about future classics.

1. The Book Thief by Markus Zusak. I haven’t actually read this book. As will be the case with many on this list but I think this will be a future classic since it’s in the heart of many.

2. The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime by Mark Haddon. I remember my sister had to read this book for her english class. She said it gave her insight in the live of someone living with autism. This I think is very important, to know more about people around you, about subjects you don’t know much about.

3. The Harry Potter books. Do I really need to explain this one.

4. The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky. I read and loved this book. I didn’t read it while I was still in school but I remember it being a book you could choose to read. I think this book will definitely become a classic, as for many it is extremely relatable. Also it deals with important issues.

5. The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas. This book is taking the world by storm. I haven’t read it myself, I am planning to though. Already this seems like a book that is making such an impact on those who read it, and is a real eye opener about how life is for some people. I think that later in life this book will be a great reverence when it comes to the Black Lives Matter movement and what kind of impact it made.

Top 5 Wednesday

Top Five Wednesday is a Goodreads group which shares ideas and discussions based on a prompt each Wednesday. This week we talk about or top 5 angsty romances.

I didn’t know what angsty really meant so I looked up a Goodreads list of angsty romance books and picked 5 I actually read. These are in no particular order.

Jace and Clary from the Mortal Instruments. What’s more angsty than falling in love with your sister, and then realizing she is not your sister at all?!

Hazel and Augustus from the Fault in our Stars. the relationship between Gus and Hazel is full of anxiety and fear at what could eventually happen to one/both of them.

Maya and Lohan from Forbidden. Probably the most controversial romance I’ve ever read about. This is full of angst since it’s actually forbidden for them to be together, their brother and sister.

Lou and Will from Me Before You. Self explanatory right?

Adam and Mia from If I Stay. What can I say other then she might make a certain choice that’s not good for the relationship . Angsty or what?

Top 5 Wednesday

Top Five Wednesday is a Goodreads group which shares ideas and discussions based on a prompt each Wednesday. This week, the topic was Top 5 fictional jobs you would like to have.

Shadowhunter:
I would love to be a shadowhunter and fight demons. If I’d be a shadowhunter, I want to be   one that has powers like Clary. To create your own runes, how cool is that?

Keeper:
I don’t know but there’s something so interesting about being a keeper. A keeper is tasked with stopping often violent Histories from waking up and getting out. Histories are essentially the dead. To have the task of stopping histories from getting out is appealing to me because you essentially lay them back to rest. Isn’t that beautiful?

Professor at Hogwarts:
To spend your entire live at Hogwarts, that would just be amazing. I don’t know if I can teach, but I’ll learn just so I can be there. What would I teach? Defense Against the Dark Arts, of course. I know, I know it’s that job often doesn’t end well but in my case it will, just you wait and see.

Warlock:
I don’t know if this is a job but I am going to count it is one since in the shadowworld payment is often do.  Although I love the be a shadowhunter and fight demons more, there’s something that makes being a warlock also pretty awesome. Warlocks have a kind of freedom that shadowhunters do not have. The are their own boss. Not to mention the  epic spells they can perform.

Assasin:
Being an assassin is really appealing to me.  Especially the kind like Celaena Sardothien. She is such a badass. Also she can go from killing people to read books and walk around in beautiful dresses.

These are my top 5 fictional jobs. What are some of your favorite fictional jobs? What do you think of mine?

Top 5 Wednesday

Top 5 Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Samantha over on Goodreads.

Today’s top 5 Wednesday is al about book trends you’re tired of. What are some things you are tired of seeing that are trends in publishing? Maybe something that pops up on a lot of covers these days, or the popularity of certain tropes in a particular genre?

On to what I am tired of.

Diversity
There need to be more diverse books. I’ll admit it’s getting better but I still feel there is a lack of diverse books in the world. When a book is diverse, you often don’t know about it because it’s not advertised as such. Why not say a character is bisexual or a book is own voices, why?

Harmful tropes
Books that have homophobic or racist undertones. Although i haven’t read the book myself, I read a lot about Veronica Roth’s latest book Carve the Mark and how it has racism in it. I do not condone this. This behavior is atrocious, both from the author as well as the publisher.

Trilogies and series
Once in a while I love reading a trilogie or even a series but nowadays it’s almost all you can read. Everything is part of a trilogy/series, I can’t keep up anymore. I want a nice standalone book to read!

Movie covers on the book
Absolutely hate it. I know, i know they have to promote the movie as much as possible but do they have to do this by making a movie cover. It’s especially irritating when you can’t get the normal cover anywhere.

Similar covers
That every other cover has to look like a cover in the Throne Of Glass series by Sarah J. Maas. Think of the Winners trilogy by Marie Rutkoski or the Shattered Realms trilogy by Cinda Williams Chima.
